There has been a FIND !!

The body of Ron Rosepink has been found by hikers on the south face of Bear Mountain

On Tuesday March 15th, the Kern County Sheriff sent out searchers to perform the recovery.

Dental records confirmed the find.

Ron Find After Action Report:

             Reader’s Digest version:  Our analysis is Ron landed, did post landing checklist items, bundled up his glider, lost his balance and launched himself headlong into a stand of trees, stopping his slide with his head.  He died of a broken neck, instantly according to the coroner and ME. 

            Ashes will be scattered at Hawk, Edwards, ocean, and Colorado with no other formal memorial as they had one at Edwards last June.   Dates and announcements to follow

            There is an extensive description of the post find activities by myself, Ron’s family, Mark Stucky and Fuzzy in CA on the member’s only side.  This includes the investigative steps taken reviewing the search, recovery, and post flight analysis.  There are many supporting photos from me, Mark, and the coroner and a power point presentation by Mark for the U.S. Hang Gliding Association.  I strongly recommend you review this fully and do your own analysis.  Association members and search team members may contact Jeff Smith at jeff@expertranger.com for an access password.

            We’ll cover SAR management and tactical lessons learned to close this out at the November 2005 Continuing Education weekend.  Plan on being there!
